Matsya avatar is the first incarnation
of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu, taking an avatar in the form of a fish, asked a
sage to collect all kinds of animals and when the earth was sinking in water,
then in the Matsya avatar, God protected the boat of that sage. After this,
Brahma created life again. According to another belief, when a demon stole the
Vedas and hid in the deep depths of the ocean, then Lord Vishnu took the form
of Matsya and attained the Vedas.
Once due to Brahmaji's heedlessness, a
very large monster stole the Vedas. The name of that monster was 'Hayagriva'.
Knowledge vanished as the Vedas were stolen. The darkness of ignorance spread
everywhere and sin and unrighteousness prevailed. Lord Vishnu then killed
Hayagreeva and protected the Vedas by taking a fishery form to protect the
religion. How did God take the form of Matsya. Its astonishing story is as
follows - Before Kalpanta, a saintly king was doing penance. The name of the
king was Satyavrat. Satyavrat was not only a saintly soul but also of a very
generous heart. It was morning. It was sunrise. Satyavrat was bathing in the
Kritamala River. After he took a bath in Anjali for a tarpan, a small fish also
came with water in Anjali. Satyavrat released the fish into the river water.
Fish said- "Rajan! Large creatures of water eat and kill small creatures.
Surely any big creatures will kill me and eat them. Please protect my
life."
Kindness arose in the heart of
Satyavrat. He put the fish in his kamandalu filled with water. Then an amazing
incident happened. In one night, the body of the fish grew so much that
Kamandalu began to shrink to stay. The second day the fish said to Satyavrat -
"Rajan! Find some other place for me to live, because my body has grown. I
have a lot of trouble moving." Satyavrat took the fish out of Kamandalu
and placed it in a pot filled with water. Here too, the body of the fish grew
so high in the pot overnight that even the matka became too small for him to
live.
The second day, the fish again said to
Satyavrat - "Rajan! Please arrange somewhere for my stay, because even
matka is getting too small for me to stay." Then Satyavrat took the fish
out and put it in a lake, but the lake also became small for the fish. After
this Satyavrat put the fish in the river and then in the sea. Surprise! Even in
the sea, the body of the fish grew so much that it became small for the fish to
live. So the fish again said to Satyavrat - "Rajan! This sea is also not
suitable for me to live. Make arrangements for my stay elsewhere." Now
Satyavrat was amazed. He had never seen such a fish till today. He said in
awe-filled voice- "Who are you who immersed my intellect in the ocean of
astonishment? Keeping in mind the speed at which your body grows daily, it can
be said without doubt that you are divine. If this is true, please tell me why
you have taken the form of fish?" Actually, he was Lord Srihari.
The Matsya Srihari replied "Rajan!
A monster called Hayagriva has stolen the Vedas. The darkness of ignorance and
unrighteousness is spread all around in the world. I have taken the form of
Matsya only to kill Hayagriva. Seventh from today. The day the earth will turn
again in the cycle of holocaust. The sea will rise. There will be terrible
rain. The whole earth will be submerged in water. Nothing will be visible
except water. A boat will reach you. Will be sitting on the boat with the
sages. I will see you again at the same time and will give you knowledge of
self-realization. " Satyavrat remembered Hari from the same day and
started waiting for the holocaust. The scene of the holocaust was present on
the seventh day. The sea also started flowing out of its borders. Terrible rain
began. In a short time, water has burnt all over the earth. The whole earth
dissolved in water. A boat appeared at the same time. Satyavrat sat on the boat
with the sages. He also filled the seeds of whole grains and medicines on the
boat.
The boat floated in the sea of catastrophe. Nothing was visible in that ocean of holocaust
except for that boat. Suddenly, the god of fish appeared in the ocean of
destruction. Satyavrat and Sapta sage Gana started praying to God in the form
of matsya - "O Lord! You are the creator of the universe, you are the
guardian and you are the protector. Take us to your shelter with mercy, protect
us." On the prayers of Satyavrat and Sapta Rishis, the God of fish became
pleased. He enlightened Satyavrat according to his word. Told- "I live
among all beings. There is neither high nor low. All beings are equal. The
world is mortal. There is nothing in the mortal world except me. The creature
who lives in me sees life Is, he gets me in the end. "Satyavrat's life was
blessed after receiving enlightenment from the God of Matsya. He became free
only when he lived. When the outbreak of the holocaust subsided, the Matsya
like god killed Hayagriva and snatched the Vedas from him. God again gave Vedas
to Brahma. In this way, God not only saved the Vedas by taking the form of
Matsya, but also gave immense welfare to the creatures of the world. Similarly,
God comes from time to time and takes care of gentlemen and sages.
